His Eminence Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley and the many people who benefit from the Annual Catholic Appeal, are grateful, along with HFP Pastor Father Lou, to the many Holy Family Parishioners who so generously donated to the 2013 Catholic Appeal. Once again, Holy Family Parish exceeded its Appeal goal. Because Holy Family exceeded its Goal by $10,645.00, the Parish will receive a check from the Appeal Office in excess of $5000.

Cardinal Sean Appoints Father Lou to Quincy and Father Scott to Amesbury/Salisbury as of June 3rd

FATHER SCOTT EUVRARD

On January 13th, Cardinal Seán O’Malley announced the appointment of the pastors for the twenty-one Phase Two collaboratives of Disciples in Mission – A Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Boston. The Archdiocese has now established 33 collaboratives that include 72 parishes.

The Cardinal's announcement summarized the appointment of Father Lou to the Phase Two Collaborative in Quincy, being made up of the parishes of Sacred Heart, St. Ann and St. Mary, effective June 3rd; and the appointment of Father Scott Euvrard  to the post of Pastor in what is now to be an official Phase Two collaborative, Holy Family in Amesbury and Star of the Sea in Salisbury.

Father Scott has been serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Sharon for the past nine years. He is a 1980 graduate of Athol High School and a 1984 graduate of Mount Union College, Alliance Ohio, where he majored in music education. He studied biblical languages with the Harvard Divinity School and in 1993 graduated Saint John Seminary in Boston.

Father Scott in the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Newsletter writes, “Though I am sad to be leaving Our Lady of Sorrows Parish and the town of Sharon, I look forward to embracing the people of Amesbury and Salisbury and all who choose either Holy Family Parish or Star of the Sea Parish as their parish community. I anticipate moving forward in faith and building on the great traditions of these parishes and the work of the laity, staff, and clergy of the parishes.”

He went on to write, "Having just celebrated the Feast of the Holy Family (on December 29th), I look forward to going to Holy Family Parish to work together in Christ for the greater glory of God. (from their parish website) and I look forward to moving from one Marian parish, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, to another, Star of the Sea Parish, whose web site quotes St. Thomas Aquinas, 'As sailors are guided by a star to the port, so Christians are guided to heaven by Mary'."

HFP's Prayer Shawl Ministry Delivers Hope and Comfort.

Recent Prayer Shawl Recipient
Holy Family's Prayer Shawl Ministry is composed of a group of volunteers who knit or crochet shawls which are blessed by the Parish priests. Recipients are encouraged to "wrap" themselves in the shawls, both for warmth and to remind them that the shawl is a work of love and an assurance of prayer. Shawls are available to be given directly to anyone, known personally by the giver and who would receive comfort from them. Prayers for the recipient are offered by both the knitters and the giver (a.k.a. Prayer Angel). To date nearly 1000 Prayer Shawls have been provided as garments of hope and comfort.

Parish Generosity Abounds

Due to the generosity of Holy Family parishioners, fifty children in twenty-six families had a brighter Christmas for 2013. Donations of toys, clothing, gift cards and groceries allowed each of them to have a joyful and memorable holiday. Together, Holy Family made Christmas special for all of these families.

Additionally, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul through the generosity of Holy Family and Star of the Sea parishioners in their support of SVdP's December sales of Tree of Lights Cards and Raffle Calendars, will help many in need this winter with rent, heat, utilities and food. The people we serve are so blessed to have the two parishes in their corner.
