Deacon Ray and Deacon Paul formally assigned within Amesbury - Salisbury Catholic Collaborative

DEACON RAY                           DEACON PAUL

Disciples in Mission, the pastoral plan for the Archdiocese of Boston, the plan entered officially by Star of the Sea and Holy Family on June 3, 2104, calls for the pastor of the parishes to form the staff members serving the parishes of the collaborative into one Pastoral Team to serve the parishes of the collaborative. Deacons have an important ministry in the Church and will be an important part of any Pastoral Team under the Collaborative.

After consulting with Deacon Ray Doucette and Deacon Paul Specht, Fr. Scott, Collaborative Pastor, requested that Cardinal Sean formally assign these two deacons to Star of the Sea Parish in Salisbury in addition to their current assignments to Holy Family Parish in Amesbury. Fr. Scott is pleased to announce that Cardinal Sean has assigned Deacon Ray and Deacon Paul to Star of the Sea Parish in Salisbury. Their assignments as deacons for Holy Family Parish in Amesbury remain in effect. The effective date for these actions was June 25, 2014. Fr. Scott is grateful to Cardinal Sean for these assignments which will strengthen the pastoral ministry of the parishes in this collaborative.

Permanent deacons share with other ordained members of the Church a dedication to serve God's people through the proclamation of the Word, administration of the Sacraments, the offering of Worship to God through Christ, the service of the poor and the faithful of Christ. Since the Second Vatican Council the Church has seen even more clearly that the deacon is called to serve the bishop, and his priests, by becoming more intimately associated with, and involved in the life of the poor, the marginalized, the forgotten, the abandoned, the silent, and the voiceless. The deacon is asked to give his voice to the poor so that their concerns may be heard by the whole Church, especially the bishop. Intimately united to the ministry of the bishop and the priests they are called to serve the Church, giving their lives in service to their brothers and sisters, the People of God.
