Ixon Ice

Father Ixon takes the #IceBucketChallenge as passed on by SVdP President Marie Deorocki. For the challenge, he used some phantasmal water allegedly sent to him from the US Ambassador of Haiti for the occasion. Honoring his Haitian native land, Father Ixon took the challenge in good fun.

PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL ESTABLISHED FOR HOLY FAMILY PARISH

Father Scott has announced the establishment of the Parish Finance Council (PFC) for HolyFamily Parish: Mary Louise Bartley, Alisa Cote, Kevin Ferreri, Michael Keller, Alan LaBranche, John Massaua, Jacqueline Heger Phelon and Patrick Willwerth. He is grateful for their willingness to serve on this important advisory council.

An active PFC is critical to the sound management of the parish.  The purpose of this consultative body is to assist Father Scott in the administration of the financial and temporal goods of the parish and to ensure accountability to the archdiocesan bishop and parishioners.

Disciples in Mission, A Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Boston, calls for each parish in the collaborative to retain its identity and integrity as a distinct canonical entity, with its own name,   church building, and responsibility for its own income, assets, resources, facilities, and financial obligations (including its fair share of any collaborative expenses).  The collaborative does not result in combining the assets or liabilities of parishes.  Each parish is to have its own PFC.

The PFC will organize itself around three key themes:  Budget and Finance, Facilities and Maintenance, and Fundraising and Stewardship.

RELOCATION OF OFFICES TO THE HOLY FAMILY PARISH CENTER

Beginning Monday, September 8, the offices currently in Holy Family Parish Rectory, 9 Sparhawk Street in Amesbury, will be relocated to the first floor of the Holy Family Parish Center, 11 Sparhawk Street in Amesbury. Most of the offices serving the parishes in our collaborative will now be located there. There are several advantages to this move.

1. The Holy Family Parish Rectory is not handicap accessible and some parishioners who come to the rectory to access basic parish services find it a challenge to get into the building. The Holy Family Parish Center is completely handicap accessible.

2. Most of the staff serving the parishes in our collaborative will now be working in the same building, creating a better sense of unity and fostering teamwork and collaboration. The Coordinator of Religious Education for Star of the Sea Parish, will maintain a small office in Father Morgan Hall, Star of the Sea Parish Town Church, 18 Beach Road in Salisbury.

3. This action makes better use of the beautiful space available to the Collaborative in the Holy Family Parish Center.

PASTORAL COUNCIL ESTABLISHED FOR COLLABORATIVE

Father Scott has announced the establishment of the one Pastoral Council for the two parishes in the Holy Family/Star of the Sea collaborative: Robert Becotte (Star of the Sea Parish), Therese Beecroft (Holy Family Parish), Karen Bucyk (Holy Family Parish), Carol Casey (Holy Family Parish), Gene Cote (Holy Family Parish) Maureen Donahue (Holy Family Parish), Marc Dodier (Holy Family Parish), Thea Gove (Holy Family Parish), Joanne Levesque (Star of the Sea Parish), Dianne Mills (Holy Family Parish), Ed Mills (Holy Family Parish), and Jolene O’Brien (Star of the Sea Parish).

The Pastoral Council is an important consultative group for the parishes within the collaborative.  Its purpose is to assist Collaborative Pastor Father Scott in his leadership role of planning, organizing, initiating, promoting, coordinating and reviewing the evangelization, worship, religious education and service activities within the parish.  Disciples in Mission, A Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Boston, calls for the multiple Pastoral Councils of the parishes in a collaborative to become one Pastoral Council to assist one pastor in fostering pastoral activity and in guiding the mission of the Church in each parish and in the collaborative.  When beneficial or necessary, subcommittees of the PPC will work separately on issue that affect a single parish.
The Pastoral Council will organize its work around four key themes: Service, Prayer and Worship, Religious Education, and Evangelization.

Father Scott intends to work with the Pastoral Council in response to Pope Francis’ invitation to be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of evangelization in Amesbury and Salisbury parish communities. (The Joy of the Gospel, n. 33)
